Before doing this project I did not know much about the history
of computers, all I knew is what we have in the current day. The history of
computers is a lot longer and earlier than I would have ever thought or known without
doing this project. While doing this project I have learnt a lot about
computers now and back then in the early years of computers.
Now on to this picture, this
picture is one of the earliest computers. This computers name was The ENIAC it was
invented by J. Presper Eckert and a man named John Mauchly, the ENIAC was
designed to calculate the trajectory of artillery shells. The ENIAC started
building it in 1943 in secret. The machine unfortunately didn't debut until February
1946, after the end of World War II, but it did at least launch the computer
revolution. It was said to have cost upwards of over $500,000 or $6,000,000 in today’s
money.
Another thing that I did not know was what Microsoft’s first
product was. Microsoft is a huge computer company that makes many things, like
computers, tablets, mp3 players and other computer related things or accessories.
Microsoft was founded on April, 1975 by two men named Paul Allen and Bill
Gates. The first computer made by them was called the Altair 8800 microcomputer
released in January 1975. While jointly developing a new OS with IBM in 1984, Microsoft released Microsoft Windows, a graphical extension for MS-DOS,
on November 20.
Following Bill Gates’ internal "Internet Tidal Wave
memo" on May 26, 1995 Microsoft began to redefine its offerings and expand
its product line into computer networking and the World Wide Web. The company
released Windows 95 on August 24, 1995, featuring pre-emptive multitasking, a
completely new user interface with a novel start button, and 32-bit compatibility, it provided the Win32 API.
Another thing I didn't know was when HP or Hewlett-Packard
came out and who was there first customer. Hewlett-Packard Company or HP is
an American multinational information technology corporation headquartered in
Palo Alto, California, United States. It provides products, technologies, software,
solutions and services to consumers, small- and medium-sized businesses and large enterprises, including customers in the government, health and
education sectors. HP incorporated on August 18, 1947, and went public on
November 6, 1957 was founded by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard.
One of the company's earliest customers was Walt Disney
Productions, which bought eight Model 200B oscillators at $71.50 each for use
in certifying the Fantasound surround sound systems installed in theaters for
the movie Fantasia. From the 1940s until well into the 1990s the company
concentrated on making electronic test equipment: signal generators,
voltmeters, oscilloscopes, frequency counters, thermometers, time standards,
wave analyzers, and many other instruments. A distinguishing feature was
pushing the limits of measurement range and accuracy; many HP instruments were
more sensitive, accurate, and precise than other comparable equipment.
